CAGC Webinar FAQs

Q: I have an idea for a webinar. Who do I contact?

A: If you have an idea for a webinar topic, we’d love to hear it! Contact the CAGC and you will be directed to the right place.

Q: What different webinars are offered? How are they organized? How many webinars are there?

A: Since 2019, the Education Committee has worked on bringing more CEU opportunities to CAGC Members. This involved TWO separate and distinct Webinar SERIES. Each series has been approved by NSGC for CEUs. For CECs, we have “pending approval” status, since not all speaker information is available prior to the start of the webinar series, as is required by the CAGC Certification Committee.

  1. The Professional Development Series is planned and hosted by the CAGC Education Committee. We are in charge of all planning and execution of the webinars. We have just completed our first “Series” and are working on planning the next one at this time.
  2. The CCMG/CanGard Leading Strand Webinar Series is hosted by CCMG, CanGard and the CAGC. The CAGC Education Committee has a liaison who works with the CCMG to receive information regarding the webinars and communicates them to our Membership. CAGC Education Committee is responsible for planning two of 10 of these webinars. The execution of the Leading Strand Series webinars (i.e.: sign-up, emails, webinar platform hosting, recruiting 8 of 10 speakers, etc.) is NOT part of the role of the CAGC Education Committee.

**AT THE END OF THIS FAQ, we have included a list of all the talks that have occurred since April 2019.

Although we do keep records of attendance, viewing of webinars, and quiz scores, it is also up to you to keep track of which webinars you attend, and be aware of the SERIES that webinar has occurred.

Continuing Education Credits

Q: Can anyone receive CEUs/CECs?

A: Anyone is welcome to participate in our webinars; however, we will only provide CEUs and CECs individuals who meet the following:

**For NSGC CEUs only: Has paid the $25USD fee, which is collected at the conclusion of a series (see below)

Q: Do I need to attend all talks within a series to get credits?

A: No, you can attend as many as you are able. You will only be credited for the number of sessions you attend. For example, if a series has four talks and you attend only one of them, you will receive 0.1CEU/CEC.

Q: When will I get my CECs?

A: If you are a CAGC Member, passed the quiz(zes), and attended ANY of the webinars within a particular series you will receive a Certificate of Attendance for CAGC CECs via e-mail after the conclusion of that webinar SERIES. (i.e.: Each series will get its own certificate and hence, this occurs a few times within the year).

The timeline for this is typically a month or two AFTER the last webinar within that series has occurred.

For example, the Professional Development series ended February 6, 2020; we have an open window for collecting the CEU fees until March 13, 2020 and a CoA will be mailed by mid-April. Whereas the current Leading Strand Series does not conclude until June 2020 and we will follow the same process for collecting CEU fees at that time.

Q: When will I get my CEUs?

A: If you are a CAGC Member and would ALSO like to receive a CEU Certificate from the NSGC (for ABGC recertification) for attending a webinar series, you must complete payment of a “CEU fee”. This fee is collected at the conclusion of a series (i.e.: there is a fee for the Professional Development series and then another fee for the Leading Strand Webinar Series, etc.)

Q: How will I get my CEU certificate?

A: At the end of each webinar series for which we have obtained NSGC CEU approval, we submit the name, email, NSGC IDs, and total contact hours earned for that specific series to NSGC. NSGC staff will update the genetic counsellor’s CEU portal with this information. This is retained at the NSGC for five years.

Q: How will I get my CECs?

A: All CAGC Members who attended ANY of the webinars within a particular series and passed the quiz(zes) will receive a Certificate of Attendance for CAGC CECs via e-mail after the conclusion of the webinar SERIES. This email will summarize the TOTAL number of credits earned for that particular series.

Q: What is the fee for CEUs/CECs?

A: CAGC CECs: You do not have to pay the fee for this.

NSGC CEUs: $25USD is the fee. We convert this to CAD based on the exchange rate at the conclusion of the series. The fee is the same regardless of how many webinars you attended, so if you attended one or four, you will still need to pay $25USD to get a CEU certificate.

Q: I can’t make the sessions, are they recorded?

A: YES, we have been recording the CAGC Professional Dev Series (2019 and 2020 editions); however, these have not yet been made available online. We are working on a way to have these webinar recordings serve as a way to obtain CEUs/CECs for CAGC Members who did not attend the sessions when they were available live. Stay tuned!

Post-session communication (Quizzes and Evaluations):

Q: How and when will I receive the post-session quiz?

A: For the Professional Development series you will receive the quiz in an email link within ONE HOUR of the conclusion of the webinar. This email comes from GoToWebinar via the CAGC Office, so make sure you add that email to your safe list.

Q: What score must I receive to pass?

A: 80% (4 of 5 questions).

Q: How many times can I take the quiz?

A: You have unlimited attempts to take the quiz.

Q: How long do I have to take the quiz?

A: We keep the quiz modules open until the conclusion of a series, so if you have participated in a webinar and are eligible to receive credits (see above), then you can complete the quiz at your convenience until a closing date which is communicated shortly after the last webinar within that series has occurred.

Q: Do I need to complete the evaluation?

A: As part of the NSGC CEU process, we are required to submit evaluations of our content. We appreciate everyone’s time to answer these quick surveys. They are not mandatory to receive CEUs/CECs, but are much appreciated!
